contractor faq

The iscope team have put together responses to some common questions that are asked when we place you in a temporary or contractor role.

What is the etiquette on my first day?
Aim to arrive approximately 10 minutes early on your first day. This will give you time to spare should you encounter unexpected travel delays.

Wear a suit on your first day, unless specifically advised otherwise. It is important to portray a professional image. Speak to your direct report or colleagues to learn the company’s dress code for future days.

Have the contact details of the person you need to see when you arrive. You should also have details for an alternative contact such as your iscope specialist or one of the company’s HR employees.

What paperwork do I need to complete?
All iscope contractors are provided with the necessary paperwork prior to commencing their placement. You may elect to receive the documents online or complete the forms by visiting our office. Paperwork includes the contract assignment, payment (bank) details, superannuation forms, OH&S principles and timesheets.

Can I choose my own superannuation fund?
Yes. Under Super Choices legislation all employees are entitled to nominate their own super fund. If you do not nominate a super fund, iscope contractors are provided with an Asgard Employees Superannuation account.

Can I increase my super rate from the standard 9%?
Yes. Simply send an email to your iscope representative requesting your desired contribution rate.

Does iscope make allowances for HECS debt?
This is automatically organised between iscope payroll and the Australian Tax Office (ATO). No further action is required by you.

What do I do if I’m offered another job whilst contracting?
By entering into a contract, you are committing yourself to the end of the agreed contract tenure. However, should your new employment prospect become too attractive to resist, we require you to give the notice period specified in your contract.

My contract has been extended and my role has changed. Should my pay rate change?
The end of a contract is certainly a good time to review your pay rate. With this in mind, please contact your iscope specialist.

What if I have specific operational issues with my role?
Call your iscope specialist immediately. Such issues are more easily resolved through transparent and open communication from all parties.

What do I do if I’m sick?
In the case of illness or misadventure you should notify both your Manager in the first instance, and your iscope specialist as soon as possible.

Am I eligible for annual leave?
Contractors are not usually eligible for annual leave. Your pay rate incorporates an annual leave component.

Am I eligible for sick pay?
In most cases, contractors are not paid for sick days. Your pay rate incorporates a sick leave component.

Am I paid for public holidays?
Generally, contractors will not be paid for public holidays or other days where the business is closed.

Who do I contact if my personal details change?
You can update your details using the Candidate Log In section of the iscope website.

What happens if I miss a timesheet deadline?
Please submit your timesheets to iscope by midday Monday, each week. If you miss a timesheet deadline, there is no guarantee you will be paid for that pay period. In this situation, it is important you submit all timesheets as soon as possible so that the necessary funds can be allocated to you for the following pay period.

Can I use my mobile phone at work?
Yes, but not in your employer’s time. Unless personal calls are specifically permitted in the workplace, ensure your phone is turned off whilst at your desk and only used during your break.

If you have any further concerns or require more information about any particular aspect of contracting, please Contact Us or communicate with your iscope specialist directly.
