remember that the recipient of your resume is often busy or may be reading many resumes, give them reason to read yours.
- make sure that the resume is formatted in MS Word so that it can be received and read when you send it electronically;
- include all contact details:- name, address, relevant contact numbers and email address;
- list your education ( secondary and tertiary ) and qualifications;
- briefly describe your career objectives - make it real, simple and relevant to the job you are applying for;
- don't leave gaps in your resume and don't leave the reader with unanswered questions;
- make sure that if you do have a gap in your resume that you detail what that is - ie: overseas holiday, contract work;
- keep your resume simple and easy to read; stick to one font size, ensure there are adequate spaces and don't make your resume too long;
- remember to spell check your resume! Remember that first impressions count, so take the time to get it right;
- ask someone to proofread your resume not just for spelling, but also to make sure the message you are trying to put out is the message that's being received.
